Description
These two people are visiting as they are attending and participating in a tanning event. The woman has been working hours on softening her hide to later be stained in a walnut stain. This event attracted folks and all types of people from all over the United States. There were day travelers, lawyers, teachers, children, outdoor recreators, all ages. A very interesting collection of folks to visit with, all from diversified backgrounds.
I learned how to tan hides in the traditional manner that the Native Americans did at this workshop. The animals used were road kills and supplied for this event. Nothing was wasted, we learned traditional brain tanning skills and the end result was warm and soft hides which can be worn and appreciated in the winter months.
