Description
I learned how to tan hides in the traditional manner that the Native Americans did by attending a workshop. The animals used were road kills and supplied for this event. Nothing was wasted, we learned traditional brain tanning skills and the end result was warm and soft hides which can be worn and appreciated in the winter months.
This is a snapshot I took while attending a brain tanning event in Northern New Hampshire. This image is small for card usage only. The girl here is scrapping a hide in preparation for the tanning process. It will become warm and soft buckskin by the end of the weekend event. She is working with old world tools for this process. It is a long and labor some process.
