This would be a more modern version of a jingle dance which is quite common nowadays.
Traditionally the jingle dance dresses were red, blue, yellow and green. They danced the straight forward dance, no side to side or twirls. The jingle sound sent music to the spirits to help in healing. It started somewhere around the 1900 - 1920's in the Ojibwa tribe near the Great Lakes after a dream.

This is one of many photographs I hope to share that I shot during the annual Pow Wow at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Photographs we allowed during inter-tribal dances and it was a site of dress and great dance talent during the gathering. I felt so lucky to attend this and would recommend an event like this to anybody who desires to know more about the indigenous American peoples and their heritage.

I'm in love with this photo. My daughter and I felt inspired to use jingles on our dreamcatchers, and learned to roll the metal ourselves. I agree pow wows are beautiful and educational. I love watching the drummers. The outside ones are my favorites.
