Description
I learned how to tan hides in the traditional manner that the Native Americans did by attending a workshop. The animals used were road kills and supplied for this event. Nothing was wasted, we learned traditional brain tanning skills and the end result was warm and soft hides which can be worn and appreciated in the winter months.
This is a photograph of a friend, never afraid of hard work here he is scraping a hide for the purpose of tanning a buckskin the old world Native American way. The cold weather is actually a good time of year to do this method of tanning as the work out itself will be warming. The snow is falling in late November here and it was cold.
