Description

This is a self portrait I sketched in my apartment in Malden, Massachusetts during the years I was studying at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. I remember the Maxwell House coffee jars were great for holding turpentine and my snake plant in the background lasted for many years. The mirror was a wedding gift from my brother and I often used mirrors in my still life works back then.
This predates the digital era and the image was made from one of the last remaining records I have of early work...slides.

This is an amazing work, Nancy! The portrait is wonderfully intense, your gaze to the audience inviting everyone into your studio. The art equipment, forming a corridor of brushes, easels, a lead-in canvas... is carefully composed, every plane exploding with triangles .I loved reading the painterly details which add to the delight! And the limited color palette...so perfect! Bravo! F/L+++

Wonderful artwork, Nancy! Glad you commented that the Maxwell House coffee jar was turpentine otherwise I would have been wondering if it was a tasty drink. L / F
