East Light of Two Lights, Cape Elizabeth, Maine
This is East Light at Two Lights Park, Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I started this oil on location and another earlier version is in this gallery titled Two Lights at Cape Elizabeth Maine. The landscape shows the tower on one of the remaining two towers of old historic lighthouses in Maine. This tower is from the East light. The station was established in 1828 and the present lighthouse was built in 1874. By 1963 it was fully automated and sits at the entrance to Casco Bay near Cape Elizabeth.
I met many folks traveling to visit the Maine coast as I painted that beautiful afternoon (a favorite part of painting in plein air outdoors). The tide receded as I worked and I finished the painting from visual memory in my studio.
