Description
2/15/2024 Featured in the group titled Created by my Hands on Fine Art America
This is a plein air oil painting I did on location and on canvas at a tanning event I attended in Northern New England where we learned the old world skill of tanning hides the way the Apache Native Americans did it. There was a very large attendance and the workshop lasted three day with potluck and all contributing to the community gathering. We had a bonfire, drums, music, loads of laughter and good visiting time as we worked on the long process of making a fur or hide. The smokehouse is shown on the right. We slept in tents or the barn and truly roughed it for this natural experience.
This comes framed in a fancy red frame that is embellished with two rows of gold trim. It is for sale and I can email a potential customer a photo showing the frame.

Nice work Nancy. I once helped someone tan a bear hide, took many weeks!
Nancy Griswold replied:
Wow, that is amazing, some of the folks brought back hides started in the previous years to re-soak and smoke or do more work on them, Thanks again Judy
