Shoshone Encampment, 8 x 10, oil on canvas. This is a study I just finished as I warm up with Tepees for new Native American works. Some elements of this are based on an historical photo take around 1870 by Jackson, for resource. I enjoy delving into the history of the Native Americans which I did not get when going to history class as a child. The Shoshone lived primarily in Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. Shoshone means high-growing grasses - originally Sosoni.
