This is an oil painting I did during March en plein air. It was a 2 1/2 hour sitting with a 5 colors and a reduced color palette using my small plein air outfit. I painted this right off of Route 3 going north from Lincoln, New Hampshire. The view has some of the majestic Franconia Mountain Range. The predominant mountain center right is Mount Liberty (4459 ft). On the left there are three peaks, going left; Mount Lincoln (5089 ft), Mount Truman (5000+ ft) and Mount Lafayette (5242 ft). All are within the White Mountain National Forest. The Franconia Ridge trail meanders along the top of this range giving any hikers a spectacular view of the White Mountains.
One of the first spring-like days I wanted to get out to paint some snow before the melt. I met a nice couple from Boston who came up to see the mountains. They loved looking at the mountains like me and they had no other agenda than absorbing the majestic views. I always get that type of perk when I am working outdoors. (Meeting others like myself, that is).
