A rainy day and a foggy day at the side of Chocorua Lake in Chocorua, New Hampshire as I attempted to paint Mount Chocorua in the background. It was very windy and at times it just poured as I painted here. Many times I thought the sky would clear and then the mountain would soon be blocked by fog, mist and clouds again. Even so, it was a beautiful day as the weather changes also included moments when the lake had full reflection of the foliage before me.
Mount Chocorua rises to 3490 feet and is on the eastern side of the White Mountain National Forest. The Mountain itself is in the town of Albany, New Hampshire and has much history. It has been painted and photographed by many over the years including great artists from the Hudson River School of painters. John White Allen Scott (1815-1907) did a lovely painting of it and so did many others.
The mountain is said to have a curse on it by a Native American named Chocorua; contained in the Token (1830).
