I have seen many stones stacks in recent years up in the White Mountains and along brooks and rivers as well as along the rocky coast of Maine. The prayer stone stacks are created with many intentions nowadays and have also been used as trail markers for hikers in the past. There were many within my view of the Pemigewasset River the day I started this painting on location. They were inviting and full of mystery for me. I wonder who stacked them and what was their prayer or intention. Stacking of stones is an old custom saying "I was here and made a prayer or wish."
The Pemigewasset River runs through the White Mountains of New Hampshire on the east side; this section was in Lincoln, New Hampshire.
