This is an oil on canvas I did from life. I was looking out my apartment at night and I had a spotlight on my paint palette inside my room. I lived on Main Street in Stoneham, Massachusetts during the later years of attending Massachusetts College of Art. It is right in the center at Stoneham Square. At this time I was looking at works of Edward Hopper and enthralled with light and color over geometric forms. I was also painting interiors and studying with George Nick, an American realist oil painter. Slowly I was working towards illustration and realism. I have always found so much captivates me during periods of acute observation.
This was not the digital era and my archives hold only a slide which I scanned to share this. This was done with thick oil paint application on a dark ground.
There are more images from this period of Stoneham Square in one of my collection/galleries titled Stoneham Massachusetts

Nancy, the lighting in this work is exquisite. I can just see you painting it. The feel of Edward Hopper is about here and he is a favorite as well. Beautiful and aglow my friend. F/L.
