This is an imagined story oil painting about impressions I have of the local area I live in the Cohase Region of Vermont (Cohase means - place of wide valleys - in Abenaki). The area is a river valley and farmland is rich and used by many including myself. The Connecticut River divides NH and VT. The mountains beyond in this work are in New Hampshire and the painting from the Vermont side looking east to NH.
Included in this is the white church from Newbury green on Rte 5, Lake Morey Road lead down the hill to route 5 in Bradford, Vermont; the yellow barn of Burgess Dairy/Livestock Farm in Bradford, VT along Rte 5, my white cat, my neighbor’s chicken and a light in the window of the gray house is for fellow artist Randy Burns. I imagined my ole friend George is the man with the watering can, he so loves gardening. I had a lot of fun and my imagination was working on this painting, I even harvested a few huge heads of lettuce as I was working on this.
The mist frequently hugs our valley in the morning but usually burns off by noon in spring and fall. They roads are winding and go through many scenic and beautiful places up here. I included a road going up the mountain across the way too. It was a challenging composition so I spent time on this work.

Lovely detailed work, Nancy, with great depth from the farming activities to the Church and then the forest and further back, the road going up the distant mountain. Superb lighting and interplay of colors, tones and textures. Outstanding composition! F/L
