This is a painting I did when I returned home from Boston to visit my folks in my twenties. My parents and all siblings built this house from scratch, using the timber made from the trees on the land. When I was little I was a part of the assembly line to varnish the pine boards, The entire house was pine paneled inside and out and furnished with second hand things and fun items my parents found at thrift stores and auctions at Riverton, Connecticut.
My parents have passed on now and this house has been sold. I know we are all sad to see it go but we have moved on into other directions, many establishing homes and families of their own. We are bonded by the fond remembrances of the self-sufficient paradise we contributed in making and our childhood experiences of working together to make a home in the country.
There was a lot of labor involved here including fields with abundant gardens, land clearing, my mothers rock garden in the back. The tree in the foreground I planted with my father when it was a seedling. It now is extremely tall and bears beautiful pine cones.
This house is in northwestern Connecticut.

This somewhat distant view with those golden spots of warm light drew me into this wonderful scene. I love the sound of this home in your description. The image conveys everything you say. F/L Nancy.
