Painted in 1987, This is a farmhouse that stood in Billerica, Massachusetts. I painted this on location with another painter friend in 1987 years after art school. I was still commuting into Boston to work at a publishing company full time, back then. This house was so attractive to me as I had dreams and imaginings of owning a house in the country like this. It was within two years after this I purchased a home in Rumney, New Hampshire that looked almost identical to this. Sometimes I do believe I have manifested my dreams through art.
I still held a strong interest in works of American realists and Edward Hopper during these years. Undoubtedly my studies and interests influence my art over the years. When my study and interests change, so does the artwork. I have never been good at cookie-cutter art.
The original sold years later and I was left with a slide to scan to share this. It was painted long before the digital era.

This is so beautiful and I agree on the Hopper feel. He would be so proud!
Nancy Griswold replied:
Ho Ho, if Hopper were around I am sure he would say I could do better - lol, but I am happy with this for the time it was done, thanks so much

It's a lot of fun to have the chance to see your earlier painting style, Nancy. I like all of the stylized shapes and strong colors, laying the groundwork for your future magnificent paintings. I definitely can see the Edward Hopper influence in this one. He is one of my favorite painters, as are you!!. like/f
Nancy Griswold replied:
Thanks Anne, love to hear your observations and input a lot. Thank you for the f/l too

Beautiful Nancy! This reminds me of a farmhouse my Grandparents had in Tamworth, NH. I lived there for a little when I was younger, great memories! Nice work, l/f.

Your passion for Edward Hopper reflects so beautifully in your work here and other works Nancy. That brilliant glow of white contrasts so nicely with the darker colors in this painting. F/L.
