I was motivated to create an oil painting about our times in the United States during 2017-2018. I have never created a commentary painting before. My hope is that this image will be seen and encourage citizens to vote November 6, 2018. My heart has been heavy with terrible news each week in the nation the last year and a half. Our lives and welfare depend on maintaining our democracy by having a large voter turn out for elections.

There is a lot of symbolism in this painting and you can enjoy looking for it. One thing is the light is streaming through the window from the outside where the woman’s march is occurring. There are three generations of women illustrated here and the cat is also another symbol. The women are contemplating about how to fit the round disc puzzle parts with concerns into the map. There are lists of concerns on the walls, on the signs in the parades and on the round puzzle parts. There is a lot to think about when one looks at this painting.

Many thanks to the two women who posed in a local shop as they made their puzzle here in Vermont. I also thank people who contributed their thoughts, words and concerns of today for this art.

This oil painting will be given to a favorite politician.
