When I was painting this and doing research for this painting I was thinking of the Mother of my boyfriend. She was undoubtedly was the head of her family; The "Madre". She made terrific authentic Mexican dishes. My boyfriend told me stories of her youth and it is from his memories and stories I came to paint his family. It now hangs in Rosorita MX in one of her sons home.
The boys were brought up under her attentions, were taught to cook and do household chores as she anticipated they may remain without wives and they had to learn to fend for themselves.
My boyfriend told me of all the traditional cooking skills he had learned from his mother in Mexico City. One was making tamales, sopas and tortillas from scratch using corn masa.
This was painted in spirit for the impressions I had of this strong, loving and firm woman called "Madre" with an imaginary composition depicting a loving relationship with her son.
The painting now hangs in a hallway of the home of one of her sons in Rosarito, Mexico and is enjoyed by the entire family.

Beautiful. I love her smile and the way her child is resting his hand on her back. This is a very loving mother and child painting.
