Prior a 1874 Type station was at this site, a Gothic Desin, smaller then the Duluth Type, the 1874 Type station had an open to the element "widows walk" observation post. This USLSS station was replaced by a Duluth Type Staion built in 1904.
It is a coastal station of the U. S. Life Saving Service, which was merged with the U. S. Lighthouse Service into the U. S. Coast Guard. In Turo, there were three Duluth style stations, Pamet River, Highlands and High Head. Few are still standing then. The Old Harbor Station, which was on Nauset ("North Beach" locally) in Chatham, was barged off the beach a few weeks before the Blizzard of 1978 and towed to Prov...
