Title
Rhode Island Beach 1977
Artist
Nancy Griswold
Medium
Painting - Oil On Masonite
Description
This is an oil sketch I did in 1977. I set up by a sand dune one very windy and hot afternoon at the National seashore in Rhode Island near Charlestown. I remember the difficulty of painting in the wind and this art had a lot of sand embedded into the paint. This beach has always been one of my favorite places to visit. Back in 1977 it seemed like a very remote place to visit and be alone by the sea. Today it is more populated but you still might acquire a few hours of solitude at the right time of year.
This image is posted from a scanned slide I had in my archives. Now the original work is gone.

I love seeing your earlier work Nancy, obviously you have been at expert level since the 70's! Beautiful expression of solitude in this beach side beauty

Thanks so much Amy, I remember the air and wind and sand in the paint in this one, seems like yesterday, thanks for such a nice compliment my friend

This has got to be a huge favorite. I love the misty, dreamy feeling and the whole atmosphere and mood of this work. The distant unknowing makes me want to walk right into the scene Nancy. Fantastic. F/L.
