Winter in Franconia Notch
I am standing on the edge of Profile Lake below Cannon Mountain Ski Area which is behind me and I am painting an early March Scene of Eagle Cliff. Eagles nested there for many years. This site in Franconia Notch State Park is a limitless location for artists who love landscape.
It started out to be a tolerable day and suddenly turned bitter cold and started snowing so I made this a fast 2 ½ hour plein air sketch as I warmed up in my car a few times. I met some interesting locals from Franconia who enjoyed viewing the mountain scene that day as well; always a perk and I learned that this mountain is known by some to be the “dogs head” in a connected range which suggests the shape of a dog.
